As of Sep 18, 2020, devices listed below have been verified to support video streaming over USB Type-C.
Not all USB Type C ports support video output. USB Type C refers to the connector type, not the capability of the port itself. Video over USB Type C requires hardware source to support specificDisplayPort Alternative Mode (DP ALT Mode).
The adapter offers a connection distance of up to 3 m (10 ft.) and works with USB-C devices that support DP Alt Mode, such as the MacBook, Chromebook Pixel and Dell XPS models 15 and 13. It's also compatible with Thunderbolt 3 ports. The MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Mid-2012 do not have USB-C ports. The Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter cannot output a USB-C with DisplayPort alt mode signal - it is only for connecting Thunderbolt devices. With a Thunderbolt device, you can give your computer a USB-C port with DisplayPort alt mode. ?Wide Compatibility?Works with Thunderbolt 3 compatible computers with DP alt mode such as2017 iMac/iMac Pro, 2017 & 2016 MacBook Pro, Retina MacBook 12' 2015 / 2016, Chromebook Pixel 2015, Dell XPS 13 & 15 (6th gen / late 2015-2016), Samsung Galaxy S8 / S8+ and future laptops, tablets, & desktops which comply with the VESA 'DisplayPort. And some Thunderbolt docking stations that have 'upstream' TB3 peripheral ports can also send regular USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode on those ports. So this adapter would only be needed for cases where the source port only supported Thunderbolt and where somebody wanted to use it for DisplayPort Alt Mode. 2-Port USB-C KVM Switch with Power Delivery; Control and share 2 USB-C devices with DP Alt Mode from one keyboard, mouse, and an HDMI monitor; Power Delivery 1 (USB-C external power needed) with up to 75W charging for laptop 2 and up to10W for smartphone 3; Supports USB-C/Thunderbolt ™ 3 MacBook Air ®, MacBook Pro ®, iPad Pro ®, Windows ® &Android 8+ devices.
Please check with device manufacturers if DP ALT mode is supported.

Product Description
The Plugable USBC-DP adapter cable enables DisplayPort displays to be connected to a computer via a USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 port which supports 'DisplayPort Alternate Mode' ('Alt Mode') such as the Thunderbolt 3-enabled MacBook Pro series (2016, 2017, 2018), 2016/2017 iMac, 12″ Retina MacBook 2015/2016/2017, Dell XPS 9350/9360/9370/9550/9560/9570 and many more.
Alt Mode adapters allow you to add an additional display output easily and inexpensively on supported systems. Since 'DisplayPort Alternate Mode' is a direct pipeline to your graphics processor via special functionality introduced in USB 3.1, there is no performance penalty to using the adapter; the attached display should be just as responsive and functional as if it were connected to a video port directly attached to your system's motherboard.

Features
- Enables you to connect a DisplayPort compatible display to a USB-C port using a single cable
- Compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux
- Supports resolutions up to 3840×2160@60Hz
- Cable is fully Plug and Play; no special driver installation or additional power source required (though please note that system will require functional graphics drivers and USB drivers for Alt Mode to function properly)
- Complies with the VESA 'DisplayPort Alternate Mode on USB Type-C Connector' Standard
- Overall Length: 6ft/1.8m
Compatibility
Compatible with host computers (PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, some tablets and phones) which support USB-C 'DisplayPort Alternate Mode', including many systems based on Intel 'Alpine Ridge' and later chipsets. No driver is required on supported systems, as the extra display output is wired directly to the host's main graphics processor and uses that existing driver.
Most current USB 3.1-enabled tablets and phones do not support 'Alternate Mode' video output functionality. Please see additional compatibility information below.
FAQ
Q: Sometimes when I plug the adapter into my Pixel, I do not get display output. Why is this, and is there a solution?
A: Currently, several USB-C devices (including Google's own DP and HDMI adapters) do not detect upon connection 100% of the time. This is thought to be a firmware issue with the USB 3.1 'switching' chip in the Pixel (which is responsible for allowing a USB-C connectors to be reversible). Currently, the best solution is to try flipping the USB connector and reinserting the adapter.
Q: Can this adapter support DisplayPort Multi-Stream Transport (MST) daisy chaining?
A: The cable is capable of passing Multi-Stream data. However, As new USB Type-C systems are released, DisplayPort MST daisy chaining is dependent upon the host system. Some Dell based MST setups may require certain setup steps to successfully configure MST daisy-chaining. Please reference the article here with Dell support and a step-by-step guide for MST configuration (fourth post in the thread). MST is not supported on MacBook/MacBook Pro systems.
Q: My system has multiple USB-C and/or Thunderbolt 3 ports. Can I add multiple Alt Mode adapters for multiple displays?
A: If your system supports multiple Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C Alt Mode outputs, then you will be able to use multiple adapters on one system. However, there are some Thunderbolt 3/USB-C Alt Mode systems that limit the video output to one port.

Q: Why doesn't my desktop display when I connect my monitor to my system using this adapter?
A: There are a few things to double-check if your monitor is not displaying upon connecting our adapter. First, make sure that the DisplayPort connector is connected securely to a DisplayPort input port. Some monitors have both a DisplayPort input and DisplayPort output ports. Also, ensure that the input setting within the monitor's menu is set to the DisplayPort source input. Some monitors may not automatically detect and change to the input port that is being used.
Q: Does your adapter support audio to my monitor/TV?
A: Yes! Our adapter is able to support the transfer of video and audio over DisplayPort. Please ensure that the monitor has a full-sized DisplayPort input port and built-in speakers by checking with the manufacturer. You may also need to set the specific display as the Default Playback Device within the Windows Sound settings in order to play audio over the connected display's speakers.
